Monday 12 August 2013 (Determination) Determination: A School Value Are People Laughing At Your Dreams? When the Wright Brothers were trying to invent the first airplane, people laughed. Virtually every time Sir Richard Branson announced that he was entering a new market, people laughed. When J.K. Rowling submitted the manuscript for the first Harry Potter book, 29 publishers laughed at her. When Bill Gates announced that one day every desktop would have a personal computer, people laughed. When Roger Bannister declared that he would run the mile in under four minutes, people laughed. When Alexander Graham Bell first invented the telephone, people laughed. When Barack Obama first announced that he was running to become the first African-American President, people laughed. When Gandhi attempted to create an independent India through non-violent means, people laughed. I suspect when Brother Chanel told people he was going to build a school from very little resources, people laughed. What are your dreams? Are people laughing at them? If they are not, they are probably not big enough. This is a lesson to be learned.
