Monday 13th October Well, an exciting but expensive day. For various reasons I was up quite early. I had already made the decision that I would be going to Körmend today. Only question was when. I made the decision to catch the 8:30 bus, it being market day. That gave me enough time to shop, check pigeons and feed goats then dogs in and off to the pub for breakfast. Coffee and a kis Hubertusz - tut-tut. Dressed in town clothes and on to the bus. First stop was the pékaru (sandwich shop) where I did get some munchies to pass as an actual breakfast. I sat outside by the water feature. Sun was up and it was quite pleasant. I had my munch, then a leisurely pipe. Next stop bank where I drew out a rake of cash. It turned out well that I did. More later. I limped on down to the T-Com shop with the main purpose of the trip in mind. After much thought I had decided for reasons not for the blog to get a smart phone. They call them wise phones here. I had always declared that I did not want a phone cleverer than I am. Oh well, a bullet that had to be bitten. There was a queue. They had a new queuing system in there. Some random bloke punched a button on a touch screen and gave me a ticket. Unlike the banks, there was no display indicating what ticket had been called. Just a loudspeaker announcement sufficiently muffled and indistinct as to be indecipherable to someone with my accuity of hearing. It did not matter anyway. Seemed to me that those in the queue were just going to the counter when their turn came, as did I. I was served by a pleasant enough young lady and explained what I wanted. There was a lot of blah-blah-blah that quite frankly went straight over my head. Eventually I got the drift of did I want a new SIM card. Yes - new SIM card, new number. Did I want Pay As You Go or to go on a contract. Well, Pay As You Go works for me. We discussed Internet access. I fear something may have been lost in translation on that one because, as I write I still cannot access the Internet. Eventually I was actually looking at smart phones. It took me but seconds to make a choice. Samsung Galaxy, the best they had in the shop. The inevitable printing and signing of paperwork and I parted with forints - 44000. Out of the shop, round the corner and a celebratory beer in the Presszo bar. Next stop, Zenit the miserable ironmongers. I wanted shackles. You know - the U-shaped things with a threaded pin that screws in to close the open end. I was shown everything but. Carabiners - NO. Jubilee Clips - NO ... I left empty handed. Next door to Gazdabolt. Same thing - No, No. As the young lady was going through her plastic trays of these minor items I spotted them. Ö. They were a bit small. I asked if they had some bigger ones. She ratched through the bags again and came up with some that were perfect. I bought four. New Pickly dog chain fodder. As I turned to go to the checkout I saw a thing. I had had my back to it. Two brand new Salgo stoves stacked on top of one another. One with firedoor on the right and one on the left. I immediately told them that I would be buying the one with fire door on the right, but not today. I paid for the shackles - not much. A few hundred forints. I reiterated that I would want to return and buy the Salgo stove. I stood back, pondered for a moment, did a quick mental calculation and decided that I had enough forints in the pocket to buy it now. Stop procastinating, Steve. How long had I been writing on the blog about the problems with the current kitchen stove. So I bought and paid for it. I asked about delivery - 2000Ft the boss said. Just petrol money. I paid that as well. I told them that I did not want it delivered today and asked when it would be. Tomorrow morning. Fine.I told them that if I was not at home I would be in the Halogy pub. Manager grinned and chuckled. I limped round to the Haláscsarda, making another (unsuccessful) call en route. Vadpörkölt and a beer. The vadpörkölt was not up to their usual standards - scrag-end of deer. Back towards the bus stop back to the village. It hurt. Oh how it hurt!. I managed a quick Spar shop on the way and then the bus back to the village. Miki (bless him) had noticed my absence from the village and thrown some stuff in to the goats. Evening beer oclock and that is enough for the day.
