Monday, 27 May 2013 12:04 Ladies 5-1 Aberdeen Written by Rangers Football Club Ladies 5-1 Aberdeen RANGERS Ladies increased their unbeaten run to eight games after an impressive 5-1 victory over Aberdeen at Petershill on Sunday. Angie Hind was understandably thrilled with her side’s display against their Granite City opponents and was delighted to see in-form midfielder Megan Sneddon (above) net her fourth goal in four games. Rangers started well from the referee’s first whistle, putting the Dons under early pressure, with Hayley Cunningham showing intent with two shots on goal in the opening minutes. Her first strike on the turn went just wide of the target while the second was blocked by an Aberdeen defender. The deadlock was broken after quarter of an hour played when Kathryn Hill picked up the ball on the left flank and drove inside before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box which rocketed into the bottom corner of the net. Aberdeen looked to level the game quickly and had the ball in the back of the net but their striker’s run was deemed offside. From this Rangers countered and doubled their lead when Hill again was on target with another powerful and accurate shot. The Light Blues kept pushing forward, keeping pressure on the Dons’ backline, and after several corners were awarded for their efforts with a third goal. A corner taken by Cunningham found Sneddon who powered a great header beyond the helpless Dons keeper. The Scotland international almost added to her tally as the first half continued with a terrific effort from long range which hit the post. The woodwork then got in the way again as Megan Foley latched on to a poor clearance but her attempt was foiled by the cross bar. After the restart Rangers kept up their strong play and it wasn’t long before they found the net again. An excellent ball from Hollie Thomson found Foley in front of goal and she lobbed the ball over the keeper to make it 4-0. With an impressive lead already in place Hind made her first substitution with Cunningham making way for Lisa Swanson and 20 minutes into the second half Rachel Halliday was introduced in place of goalscorer Hill as Rangers kept up their attacking play. The visitors, however, got a goal back when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. After clearing the initial shot Rangers weren’t quick enough to press the ball and the follow up shot was well struck into the corner of the net, giving keeper Khym Ramsay no chance. After conceding the goal, Rangers made two changes with Michelle Barr and Foley replaced by Sophie Riley and Rebecca Storrie. In the closing stages Aberdeen tried to build on their goal as they pushed play towards the Rangers end but the home side matched their efforts. And with what would amount to be the last real play of the game, substitutes Storrie and Halliday worked well to create Rangers’ fifth goal. Storrie worked her way forward and an excellent cross found her team-mate who finished well to complete an excellent victory. Angie Hind said: “We played well as a team but the foundation for this was our midfield. They were dominant in the air, defensively they won a lot of the ball for us and their movement in possession was at times fantastic. “I was really pleased with the goals we scored and the contribution that the players coming off the bench made too.” Rangers: Ramsay, Barr (Riley), Paterson, McGill, Penglase, Thomson, Sneddon, Cunningham (Swanson), Ross, Foley (Halliday), Hill (Storrie) Subs not used: Hughes, J. Condie, Lindsay watp....shiz
