Monday, 8/13/1984 an extremely smoky, hot fire during a very hot and humid day left 12 homeless from their apartments at 204 Fourth Street in Pennsburg. Cause of the fire was determined by State Police Fire Marshal Bob Kline to be a knitted potholder that fell onto a burner of a stove that was left on. The apartments at 206 Fourth Street were also evacuated. A total of six firefighters had to be transported to local hospitals due to heat exhaustion. Pennsburg, East Greenville, Red Hill, Green Lane, and Milford Township Fire Companies were on-scene. Ambulances from Upper Perk, Green Lane, Bally, and Milford Township transported the dehydrated firefighters. The article appeared on the front page of the 8/15/1984 T&C.
