Monday 9th Sep, 2013. HE TOOK THE PLACE OF THE LAMB Isaiah 53: 1-12 “Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast as you really are. For Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed”. ( 1 Corinthians 5:7) Why is Jesus likened to a lamb? Have you ever wondered why God chose a lamb as a sacrificial animal? He could have chosen any other type of animal, but we know He has a specific reason for whatever he does. Firstly, as lamb is a young male or female and is considered a lamb when it is less than 300 days old. It was one of the first animals to be raised as a domestic animal. It is a quiet, helpless and sensitive animal. A knock on any part of its body is felt all over the body. We see some of these descriptions in our Bible reading for today. Lamb of God, He was oppressed and He was afflicted. Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before His sharers is silent so He opened not His mouth” (Isaiah 53:7, NKJV). We also see that as Christ went through the torment before his crucifixion and even the crucifixion itself. He definitely felt it all in every part of His body. Jesus described Himself as being gentle and humble in heart in Mathew 11:29 just as the lamb is seen as a gentle domestic animal. He wants us to know that we could have His gentleness, if we would take His yoke upon us. The tenderness of the Lamb meat shows us God’s tenderness in His compassion and mercy throughout scripture as we also see in Christ’s life while He was here on earth. Just as a lamb’s wool is used for covering as clothing so also, we are to put on Christ. “But put on the Lord Jesus and make no place to satisfy the fleshly desire”. (Romans 13:14 HCSB) i.e. to imitate Christ in all things and enter His views. We are not to idolize any graven image or anything beside God, it is God only and Him alone. We are everything to Jesus Christ the Lamb of God because He took the place of the Lamb and became the sacrifice for the atonement of our sins. Praise God! What is on your mind about this lamb? Prayer: Jesus that was slain for my sins, thank you for taking my place and making me a part of your beautiful kingdom in Jesus name. Amen!
