Monday, December 15 1 Chronicles 16:35-41 GIVE THANKS TO GOD’S HOLY NAME And say ye, save us…and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy Holy name, and glory in thy praise. 1 Chronicles 16:35, KJV Contemporary Christians know how to pray hard; fast for days and weep when God has not answered their prayers. But when the Lord answers, they rarely give thanks. Some give thanks briefly and begin to present other requests. This is why we have several prayer centres rather than thanksgiving centres today. David, in today’s passage, remembered what God had done for Israel right from Egypt till the time he made a place of rest for the Ark of Covenant. He, therefore, wrote this song. David knew how to give God the best of thanksgiving. Hardly would an event pass without a corresponding Psalm of thanksgiving. Little wonder, he enjoyed the best of God in protection, promotion and forgiveness; even when he committed grievous offences. Are we saying you can bribe God with praise to cover your sin? No. But, when you live a life of praise, God’s mercy will triumph over judgment concerning you.
