Monday, December 15 (at 4:58 pm) marks the moment 47 years ago that the once famous Silver Bridge carrying US 35 between Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Gallipolis, Ohio, suddenly collapsed into the icy waters and onto the frozen banks of the Ohio River below, taking with it 46 lives. This song by Steve & Annie Chapman and the accompanying video are a great tribute to those lost as well as a remembrance of a local tragedy that impacted the entire nation. Victims of the Silver Bridge disaster included folks not only from our area (some of whom crossed the bridge up to 20 times a day) but also travelers from Virginia and North Carolina.
