Monday, December 29th, 8 PM, Yoshi’s, Jack London Square, Oakland - Tickets are selling well for Larry Vuckovichs hard-swinging Dexter Gordon Tribute Quintet, featuring two top tenor saxophonists: Noel Jewkes and Rob Roth, with bassist Jeff Chambers and drummer Leon Joyce. Pianist Larry Vuckovich, who worked with Dexter in Denmark and Austria, brings a firsthand interpretation of Dexter’s music. He promises a musical tribute that is “joyous, foot-tapping, finger-snapping, and a great way to end out the year. Larry, who will feature Dexters Blue Note hits and other material, says : This is a Quintet made up of authentic, dedicated jazz musicians who have spent their lifetime performing, studying and refining the art of jazz. Even though they are schooled, their knowledge has mainly been gained from performing with the greats in jazz – the best school that jazz can offer. This knowledge and experience comes through their playing, in which the soulful feeling and natural groove and hip swing are the main ingredients. “This is a good opportunity to finish 2014 in a positive, uplifting groove and Ill guarantee you that the music will stay with you after you leave Yoshi’s. This kind of a jazz send-off to end a year, is rare these days and brings back memories from my Keystone Korner days as the house pianist, when these Holiday Jazz bashes were a regular happening.” yoshis/jazzclub/artist/show/4612
