Monday, July 7, 2014 Eschewing Envy Scripture - Better what the eyes see than wandering desire. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind. (Ecclesiastes 6:9 HCSB) Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless— like chasing the wind. (NLT) Observation - I can focus, fret, and fixate on what I dont have, whats missing and lacking in my life. Or, I can dare to believe that what Ive been given is what I need, that what I have is more than enough. Application - Do I really appreciate all that God has given me in people, possessions, and pursuits - the relationships Hes blessed me with? The riches Hes entrusted to me? The road Hes placed me on (my vocation and calling)? Prayer - Giver of every good thing! I come to You this morning not pleading for more, but praising You for much. You have blessed me beyond my ability to comprehend. You have given me everything I need, and in You I lack nothing. Keep me from the evil of envy. Establish my soul instead on the firm foundation of contentment - grateful for every gift You give. Amen, I agree.
