Allen Subject: 2014 Summer Job Opportunity for Students with MDOT Good Morning, It’s time to get ready for another exciting opportunity for students to work at MDOT this summer in our Youth Development and Mentoring Program. This 10 week program will expose High School students between the ages of 16 and 18 to fulfilling careers in civil engineering and transportation related careers, all while being mentored by seasoned professionals with a wide range of expertise and experience. Attached to this email is a simple flyer that contains instructions for applying to the program. We have switched to an online process, so students and mentors simply have to visit michigan.gov/mdot-ydmp for all information pertaining the 2014 summer opportunities. Many rewarding opportunities, both cultural and educational await students participating in the program. The program cultivates long-lasting friendships, develops good working habits, and a strong sense of self-worth. Most importantly, students learn that they are capable of pursuing a successful career in civil engineering and transportation. With these goals in mind, MDOT invites students to join the program and “Bridge a Road to Future Successes!” As a result of this mentoring program, students will learn valuable skills such as: resume writing, interviewing skills, professional dress, networking, work ethic, and numerous other business-related skills that will help them successfully accomplish all of their future goals. It is our personal mission to have a positive effect on students lives and on the communities they serve. We are dedicated to their success. This year’s Metro Region Summer Youth Development and Mentoring Program will consist of roughly 130 participants. There will be involvement from MDOT’s Transportation Service Center (TSC) offices in Macomb/St.Clair County, Oakland County (Pontiac) Taylor, the Detroit Maintenance Garage.
