Monday Morning Budgie Blues: go into the litchen at 6 to make coffee. Notice yellow budgie is looking dirty, look closer - one sides caked in dried blood. Fetch dettol, cottonwool and warm water, remove budgie from the cage. Budgie bites me while I and gently wipe off as much blood as possible. Budgie keeps on biting me. Put slightly cleaner budgie back in cage. She rolls around the floor. Remove seed-coated budgie from the cage and hold her under the tap. Budgie bites me. Return very sorry-lookng budgie to cage. Make coffee. Budgie starts to shiver, not a good sign. Remove budgie from the cage, she bites me. Try to dry her with a dishcloth, she bites me. Return her to the cage and set off in search of a hair-dryer. Remove budge from the cage. Budgie bites me. She does not take kindly to being blow-dried, hangs on to my finger with her beak. Wrap budgie in dishcloth and return her to cage. Budgie bites. Coffee cold so I start again. Budgie starts shivering again. Take whole cage with both budgies and plonk it in front of the tumble-drier, set it on cool so as not to cook budgies! Budgies look startled. Drink coffee, before returning budgies to their spot on the wall. Cover them with a towel - birds always seem to heal faster when theyre kept in a warm dark spot. Finally get to drink my coffee. An hour later, remove towel with a flourish, not quite sure what to expect. Budgie eyes me malevolently before shrugging off dishcloth and flapping its way uo to its perch. its nearly 8, my fingers are bleeding and I feel as if Ive been up all day already ....
