Monday Morning Poem: (First Day of Work) I rushed out of the house with Eileen, who did not give me time to put on walking shoes. I tied laces in the car. I waited til I got to campus for application of make up. But at least I got my coffee and drank its lukewarm goodness; that did not spill on me. At least I brought my heels; at least I have nice earrings in. At least is all I can do now. Flashy earrings make up for my shambly thermal black thermal shirt. Its the kind you wear for skiing, you know--not what youd wear with a nice skirt that you THOUGHT was clean, BUT because that stubborn partner of yours takes out the skirt you were going to make a first day impression on OUT of the dry cleaning pile. (So now I got a dirty skirt she hung back up; and it doesnt smell fresh: Smells like the seat of a dirty Muni bus). Its got lint on it. You cant take out the stain. Did I tell you? She rushed you. The smart Brooks Brothers black cable knit v-neck button up? Is safely at home: you were going to wear it with a quaint necklace and chocolate diamond charm. In the stead you have What kind of shapeless undergarment is that? Is it? You dont drive back home from SFO to back home. No. Thats where you dropped her off. Theres no going back. You move forward. On the 280 you meditate on where you went wrong, you forget what you forgotten and what you intended, and pray no judgment falls. Its your first day, for crissakes. Go easy. Wear the chocolate diamond with pajama-like top, that smells like armpit with sassy heels and dirty skirt. Think about your dog you left at home today: shes going to be fine with two friends walking her; youll get to campus early. You will not get lost this time. Youll tell your boss you spilled coffee on the shirt you were to wear: your first lie. And your dog will be back in your bed, sleeping because heaven knows, as you drive? Its still way dark outside. ---- #morningpoems
