Monday Mystery: Born in Desdemona, I attended Schreiner Institute in Kerrville and then Baylor University. I was a tennis pro before there was any significant money in the sport. I became an actor in 1941 and landed roles in Wake Island (1942), Air Force (1943), Objective, Burma! (1945) and Sands of Iwo Jima (1949). Ultimately, I appeared in more than 40 films and also appeared in numerous television shows including “Murder, She Wrote, Route 66 and Gun Smoke. I am best known for my role in a television series featuring an Army officer, a boy and his German Shepherd dog. The series ran from 1954-1958. Who was I?
