Monday Night Moan-In Time – I haven’t done one of these for a - TopicsExpress

Monday Night Moan-In Time – I haven’t done one of these for a while but I think this one is definitely worth a mention. Last week my daughter’s school issued letters about absenteeism and lateness of pupils; obviously under the instruction of Monmouthshire County Council so all schools in the borough would have received a similar letter. I obviously understand the importance of regular attendance and good time-keeping; however I was still a little surprised to see that the council would be issuing FPNs (Fixed Penalty Notices) for regular offenders. From memory I believe the figure to be £60 rising to £120 if not paid within 21 days, I am not sure because thankfully I hope never to receive one so having read through the letter I duly disposed of it. I am one hundred percent sure that this is not a money making scheme for the borough although I am sure many people would disagree. What is the point of this moan-in I hear you say? Allow me to enlighten you, today my daughter was let out of school late (again), this is quite a regular occurrence, by regular I mean probably at least once a week, which when translated into school data (the school very kindly gave us data for our child’s attendance for last year) equates to 20% lateness. We were made aware that with regards to absenteeism, parents should aim for no less than 5%. So I would say the school (or the council) should be made to adhere to the same standards. I wonder if I issued the council with an FPN, if they would give me £60? I think not. I can imagine the phone call going something along the lines of: You are through to Monmouthshire County Council, to speak to a robot, please press option 1, to speak to a different robot, please press option 2, to speak to a robot that has been programmed differently so as to have a different voice, please press option 3, to go through all of these same options again, please press option 4, to be cut off, please press option 5, to hear a recorded message telling you how important your call is (yeah so important that no-one bothers to even pick up the phone), please press option 6, to leave a message (a message that you know for a fact is pointless because no-one is going to bother to return your call), please press option 7 and so forth, you all know what I’m talking about. However I think I will just try it anyway just for the fun of it and see what the outcome will be. I might even record the call and post it on here, it should be very interesting. Moan Over. Becks.
