Monday Night, Nov 10 Marti Loves shunt surgery this morning - TopicsExpress

Monday Night, Nov 10 Marti Loves shunt surgery this morning seemed to go well. She has been resting all day long. Jason and I took advantage of that time too and slept as long as we could. We take shifts during the night. Every night I am up/on call until 3am and then we switch places/pallets. The last few nights have been very busy guarding her arms from removing her NG tube from her nose, (which she has accomplished at least 4 times, she hates that thing) but much more important was guarding her hands from pulling the EVD out of her head/brain. The EVD was stressful in more ways than one!! Now that it is out we have a little more peace of mind. And thankfully, we also have one more tube out of her body. I do not think it would be physically or emotionally possible to travel this road without Jasons strength and support. Thank you God for my helper. She has talked less and had more slurred speech the last couple of days, which is worrisome to Jason and me, but have been told it could more likely be part of the hills and valleys of her recovery. We are reminded again and again how extensive and serious this surgery was. Her ICU dr didnt even want us to know how the team performed the tumor resection, but her surgeon had already told us before she went into surgery. The details about the surgery that we have been told are too much for a mothers ears. Overall we are moving in the right direction and as hard as it is to keep seeing the good sometimes we are trying our best.
