Vision "Inspire Future Excellence…Learn, Achieve, Succeed." TODAY’S NEWS! MEETINGS DAY TO DAY INFO!! Any student that is planning on being gone for deer hunting needs to bring a note from home that includes the dates you will be gone. This note needs to be brought to the office; you will then receive a pre-excused absence form that you need to take to each of your teachers to receive the assignments that you will be missing. These absences will count towards your 7. All work must be turned in when you return. Attention juniors: The PSAT test will be offered on October 16. Interested students need to sign up in the office to reserve their spots. There are only 35 tests available and will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Session 1 of credit recovery will begin on October 8, 2013. Deadline for registration is October 15. Stop in the office and see Mr. Boros for enrollment papers and details. Cast of The Wizard of Oz: Tuesday is vocal and Act I scene 3 at 6:30. Wednesday will be Act I scenes 2 & 4 at 6:30, and Act I scene 1 at 8:00. Everyone must be there! There is a spectator bus sign-up sheet on the high school counter if you are interested in going to Friday’s Football game @ USA. Cost is $1.00 to ride, the bus leaves at 5:15. Volunteers needed - On Saturday, October 12th Members of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Football Team will be spending the morning re-staining the wooden play equipment behind Townsend North. If you and some of your friends have time, please consider helping out. Staining starts at 9:00 a.m. Also on Sunday, October 13th the Vassar Rotary will be hosting a 5K race which they are asking help with. If you are not running in the race maybe you would consider helping out with this event. Sign-up sheets and information for both events can be found on the counter in the high school office. Please consider helping out. Vassar YIG students attended the fall conference at Shepherd High School this past Saturday. The students did a good job in competing and representing Vassar school. Macy Zwerk won the Speaker of the House position and will preside in this capacity at the spring conference. Although Cole Aranyos lost in his bid for Governor, he was very competitive with his speech, campaign and caucus. Mr. Lasceski & fellow advisors would like to thank all the Vassar delegates for their preparation and involvement at the fall conference. T.C. will be having their annual Halloween sale. The squad was stunned by a opening play 64 yard TD run by Marlette. The Red Raiders notched another Td making it 16-0 only 8 minutes into the first quarter. The Vulcans managed a good drive and TD before half to make it 24-8 going into the break. After half the Vulcan offense stalled and gave the ball over on downs to the Red Raiders. They marched the ball down to the Vulcan 19 yard line where there offense also stalled on 3rd down, opting for a 36 yard field goal attempt. The kick was good and this brought the score to 27-8 mid-way through the 3rd. It was all Vassar after that. The defense made some much needed adjustments and shut the door. The offense managed 3 impressive scoring drives but turned the ball over inside the 5. They managed 16 points on the other two drives and brought the score to 27-24. The Vulcan defense had another impressive stand at mid field and forced a turnover with 2:09 on the clock. They unfortunately were not able to mount the game winning drive. The clock expired with the final score of 27-24. This brings the Vulcans record to 4-2 on the season. The JV squad will host the USA Patriots thisThursday, game time is 6 pm. Vassar: 35 Marlette: 36 Scoring Leaders: Bill Abbott had 2 touchdowns on runs of 13 and 4 yards; Mike Pratt had 2 touchdowns on runs of 4 and 2 yards; Nick Baker intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for a score and Milan Ivanovic kicked 5 extra points. Rushing Leaders: Bill Abbott led Vassar in rushing with 16 carries for 126 yards and Isaiah Gonzales had 2 carries for 78 yards. Passing/Receiving Leaders: Mike Pratt completed 6 passes in 9 attempts for 62 yards. Defensive Leaders: Eli Harper had 11 tackles and Colton Tyson had 7; Bill Abbott recovered a fumble. Saturday the cross-country team traveled to the Cass City Invite. The Boys Cross Country team placed 2nd with 58 points bringing home their third trophy of the year. Tom Goforth placed 1st with a CPR of 16:56 and medaled, Dewey Rapson placed 8th with a SPR of 18:12 and medaled, Chris Malow placed 18th with a time of 19:33 and medaled, Evan Kennard placed 21st with a time of 19:51 and medaled, Jason Hansard placed 27th with a CPR of 20:28, Todd Noblin placed 31st with a time of 20:50, Bailey Leach placed 39th with a time of 21:49 and Travis Schlaud placed 40th with a time of 21:56. There is no official practice today, however please get a run in on your own. The team will be in Bad Axe on Tuesday for the Bad Axe Invite.
