Monday October 16, 2006: The day that Manchester, NH will never - TopicsExpress

Monday October 16, 2006: The day that Manchester, NH will never forget. It was like any other evening in the city of Manchester. The police department night shift suited up and began their patrols in their quest to keep us safe. Officer Briggs, a long time veteran of the MPD was on bike patrol with his partner that evening. They received a dispatch to go to 337 Lake Ave for a domestic dispute. As with all calls, they responded to the scene. During questioning, they spotted someone who was apparently involved in the altercation at the intersection of Lake Ave and Lincoln St. Officer Briggs went to question that person. That decision changed everything. Officer Michael Briggs was shot once in the head. By the person he was questioning. Paramedics as well as other officers quickly responded to the scene to get Officer Briggs to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite everyones best efforts, Officer Michael Briggs succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday October 17th. The officers of the Manchester Police Department as well as all other departments in our country go to work every day and night knowing that they may never come home. They do this willingly and with pride. Officer Briggs paid the ultimate price while doing a job he loved and believed in. We should all send our support to the MPD. Wave at them as you drive or walk by. Say thank you. They are there for you. Their goal is to keep us safe and to make sure we feel safe. Thank you MPD and THANK YOU Officer Briggs. You will never be forgotten.
