Monday Shout Outs Hello, Everyone, and Happy Monday from: Jim Fordyce and CoachellaValleyFun! Hot in the valley, cool on the mountain, so we sent everyone out and about this weekend! There was the wonderful Suessical: The Musical at Palm Canyon Theatre. This is one fun show. Only one weekend left. Dont miss it. The whole cast is fantastic, but Nicholas Sloan, who plays Cat in the Hat, and Mado Nunez, who plays Horton the Elephant, are stand-outs here. This is a wonderful whimsical show that will have you smiling long after you leave the Palm Canyon Theatre. Bring your friends, bring you kids, and love this show, which gets a perfect 4 out of Fordyce. (Here is a hint to add enjoyment to your day: Make your intermission a quick trip or skip it altogether, because, as we all know, Horton keeps his word and does not leave the nest. He also ad libs for some extra audience fun.) I was not even the official reviewer of this show, so you will need to read her review, but I will tell you she loved it as much as I did. In a rare alignment of the stars and the supermoon, Charlene and I sat together to watch a show that made us both smile. The night before (that would be Thursday, for the calendar challenged), Charlene was in downtown Palm Springs at Village Fest. When you read her article, you will once again see why the gang here at Coachella Valley News does not subscribe to the nothing happens in the summer theory that so many mistakenly believe in. While she was at Village Fest, I was enjoying dinner at Rio Azul, where we were recording one of our new radio shows that you will hear very soon. I am told the Purple Roon was filled to overflowing as the Palm Springs Voice Competition began Friday night. Who will win? Stay tuned.... Saturday night I was at a good friends birthday party. Happy Birthday to James. It was a tropical tiki party and many of us wore leis and traditional island sarongs. I dont want to boast, but I was ready for a road picture with Hope and Crosby. Many of you heard our interview inviting valley folk to cool off at Idyllwild at the Lemon Lily Fest. Well, lots of you listened and left 100-plus-degree temperatures for the cool 80s several thousand feet up. It is one of my favorite places to cool off in summer, and thanks to the people at the Lemon Lily Fest for inviting us to join them as a sponsor this year. If you were there or at other events and want to share photos, email them to CVNewsDesk@gmail. We will be glad to show them off. Another CV staffer ducked inside the movie theater. It seems Steve Radosh went to the movies, and if you read his review, he loved Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Coming up: This weekend I have a ringside seat for another cabaret event at CV Rep, where you will enjoy the addictive sounds of ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s Bubblegum Music in Chew On This! We have a preview and a Funcast that includes some of the music that you can listen to before getting your tickets. We already let you know that Suessical has only one more weekend to enjoy. A dont-miss show is The Stops. It is still on stage at Desert Rose Playhouse and it has been extended until August 3. Be sure you check out our stories as our local theatres announce their 2014-2015 schedules. So far we have heard from Dezarts Perfroms, Desert Rose Playhouse, and CVRep. If your theatre isnt here, it is not because we dont love you, because we do! It is because we havent heard from you! So send us your news at CVNewsDesk@gmail so we can contiunue to bring you the Valleys most comprehensive stage coverage. Over 38,000 people visited at least one of the Coachella Valley On Line News Network Sites Last month.
