Monday Tuesday Aug 25-26 - Tiny By Carol Buzalsky — 18 minutes ago Mom has been very sad and very scared the last few days. DeAnn and Nathan came for a few hours on Monday afternoon to see mom and DeAnn was able to understand what moms worries were about. She was afraid to be alone at night. We tried to comfort mom and tell her the doctors say she is stable and the nurses will be there with her through the night. There have been very few smiles from mom. I was in the room with her this morning as they were repositioning her in the bed and was shocked to see how tiny she is. There really is not much left to mom. This morning she held her wrists in front of her and just stared at them and then looked at me and shook her head. She cant even believe how little there is to her. Her hands, arms and legs are extremely thin. The doctors do say she is stable. The biggest issue is the fluid accumulation which she remains on continuous dialysis for. The next would be getting nutrition. The tube feedings were turned off for an evening and day due to her having stomach pain as well as fluid drainage from her stomach feeding site. Thankfully the drainage is not the tube feedings and seems to be more related to the excess fluid she still has in the chest stomach area. A bronchoscopy was done today to look at her lungs and to clear out some of the junk in her lungs. Nothing of significance was found in the bronchoscopy. On Monday she also had an abdominal xray with contrast to make sure the feeding tube was placed correctly and look for any reason for her stomach pain. The report from that was the feeding tube is correctly placed and no other issues found. Mom had therapy yesterday and today to keep her arms and legs moving. She has been having pain everywhere which we are assuming to be her fibromyalgia. Due to the build up in her lungs she is getting percussion treatments 4 times in a 24 hour period. Basically they wrap a bandage/brace around her chest and connect her to a machine that vibrates her. She really doesnt like this method at all but she tolerates what she can. Marlene and Del were with her yesterday and today. Cousin Dee was at the hospital with mom this afternoon and Ive been stopping in for short visits when I can.
