Monday morning check in from your friends at MPD. We have a few things you might be interested in: Purse theft detail, burglar caught in the act, and we found a problem house on Queen Anne. This time of year, we typically see an increase in purse thefts while folks are doing their holiday shopping. We conducted our own operation to try to determine what would happen if someone left their purse unattended, like so many folks accidentally do. We placed a purse with a small amount of cash in a shopping cart at various stores in Medford and watched to see what would happen. The results were actually pretty good. Ten people turned the purse in to the store where it was found! Four people attempted to steal the purse. We had to be sure the subjects that took the purse were in fact going to steal it. One female took the purse into the bathroom, removed the contents, and the cash was found in her pockets. Another male grabbed the purse, put it under his jacket and took off running. In the third case, a male took the purse into the bathroom and was going through it inside of a stall when we contacted him. He had codeine pills on him. And in the fourth case, a female took the purse, concealed it, and was getting in her car when she was contacted. All of the subjects were interviewed regarding their intent as well. Hopefully this will make people think twice about stealing a purse. Early this morning, Tyreese Key, 18, was caught trying to steal a car from the VW Dealership at 717 N. Riverside Avenue. The suspect attempted to run and the officer was able to catch up to him. The suspect put up a fight but the officer was able to get him into custody after a pretty good scuffle. Several windows were found broken in the business and multiple sets of car keys were stolen. We are currently dealing with a problem house at 911 Queen Anne. The following people were arrested out of that house this weekend: Tasha Looper, 32, was arrested for a Theft warrant. Beverly Booth, 28, was arrested on a warrant, meth and heroin. Willard Matson, 64, was arrested for warrants, meth, heroin and marijuana. Willie Lacey, 65, was arrested for possession and distribution of meth. We also recovered a stolen Dodge Durango out of Ashland. We want the folks in the neighborhood to know we hear you loud and clear, we are doing our best to deal with this problem. We had nine DUIIs this weekend, which is a little higher than normal. #tistheseason Have a great Monday folks!
