Monday night, October 7th at the… Sandbar & Grille in Buxton… We had 30 players including a new registration, Adam Murray visiting us from South Carolina. We also had quite a few return players from earlier this season and last season including Carl and Stan Capron visiting us from Charlottesville VA and Vermont. To all of you… Welcome/Welcome back. The winner took home a $50 Visa Gift Card and second place got a $20 Sandbar & Grille gift card. We also had an HIPL 2013 Regular Season Title clinched… More about that in just a second. There were four table bounties in the game and none of them made it to the final table. They were Dr. Rudy, Anton Tkachenko, Robbie Easley and Eddie Ochs. The significant part of the bounty situation in relevance to the league’s season was that Alex Bonner had an eight game/final lead on Eddie Ochs for the 2013 Finals Title so Alex’s “magic number” was one. All he had to do was make it to one more final or Eddie miss one final in the final eight games. Well… Eddie was a bounty and he did not make it to the final table so… Alex Bonner is the HIPL 2013 Finals Champion. Congratulations Alex… Trophy + The Donkey Shout Out goes to Jay Tolson. He got a donkey drink charm for being the first player eliminated from the game. There were five high hand bids starting with Steve Swartwood’s straight to the five. Smiley’s straight didn’t last very long though… one minute maybe. That’s when Capucine Carmen hit a King high heart flush. Harold Blakney won with an Ace high heart flush and that was it for the flushes. Valerie Real skipped the full house thing and won a hand with quad 10s. She got a 2k chip up for winning a hand with “Quads or better” but it was a club straight flush to the 10 that got Kait Jarvis a 2k chip up for winning with “Quads or better” and banked 2000 bonus chips for winning with the High Hand of the night. Harold Blakney also got a 2k chip up for winning with quad 6s in the later stages of the game after the straight flush was played... Quads or better. The final table: 7 Local regulars and 1 visitor Dave Ertle made it to his fifth final table appearance of the year and placed 8th. He moved up two spots in the standings to twenty seventh, seven points ahead of Dawn Taylor. He has been absent from us for a little while and it was good to see him back. Good J.O.B. Turtle. Kristina Lambert made it to her third final, placed 7th and moved up four spots in the standings to thirty fourth, has one win this year, is twenty four points behind Katie Frank and one ahead of Scott Baker. Steve Ammons, another of our returning players from earlier this year, visiting us from Alexandria VA, made it to his first final table in his second event with us. He placed 6th, moved up eighty four spots in the standings to 148th out of 384 total players this season. Welcome back Steve and nice game. J Stizzle made it to his twenty third final of the year and placed 5th. He is fifth in the standings with a win this season. Jen Ray made it to her eleventh final of the year, placed 4th and moved up two spots in the standings to eighteenth, with one win this season. She is now only fifteen points behind Bruce Anderson and twenty ahead of Kayla Charrette. Sandie Walker made it to her twenty sixth final of the year and placed third. She is seventh in the standings with 3 wins this season. That left the final table to be settled heads up between Aaron Williams and Rob Anders. Aaron was at his twenty seventh final of the season playing for his ninth win and Rob was at his sixteenth final playing for his third win. The blinds were 30 and 60K with the clock down to six minute blinds. I was dealing for two very good, astute players so the action was fast and furious. Aaron was in the big blind with A-7 off suit and Rob was the small blind with 3-7 suited-clubs. Rob went all in pre-flop with 80K and Aaron called. Flip ‘em. The flop was 2-9-9, two clubs… Aaron is ahead with the Ace kicker. Rob has a club flush draw and a 3 will help him too. He does not want a seven to come up. The turn is the 6 of spades… No help for any one. A club or a 3 wins it for Rob. And the river is the 5 of spades. No help again. Aaron won the hand with a pair of nines, Ace high and his ninth game of the regular season with a total chip count of 530K. He took home the Visa and gained another fifty points on Eddie Ochs who is the league point’s leader by only 82 now. It’s his tenth win of 2013 with the Wins Title staring him in the face. He is absolutely the most prolific player in the league. His HIPL career wins total is 12… 2 in 2012, 1 in the 2013 preseason and 9 in the 2013 regular season with a total earnings of $625 worth of Visa Gift Cards. That doesn’t include his 2nd place in the Championship last year or his second places in the last two seasons. He is the obvious favorite going into the HIPL 2013 Island Championship. Rob placed 2nd, got the Sandbar gift card and is twelfth in the standings, 80 points behind Tim Morgan, with two wins this season. There were eleven players in the Loser’s Lounge. Anna Crum got bonus points for placing second. Ryan McClay got bonus points and banked 2000 bonus chips for winning in the lounge.
