Monday was a first. Ada and I had to stop and buy earplugs - TopicsExpress

Monday was a first. Ada and I had to stop and buy earplugs because the howling puppy chorus of nine adorable puppies on the way to Altamont Veterinary Clinic was more than our ears could take. There was no song or conversation that would soothe them, and they werent giving up on their song of woe. Once we got to Altamont, we got the puppies out in the lobby and we all gathered around and played with them. The puppies were all fine and happy and their usual adorable selves then. Ah, puppies. I should have taken a picture of all of the happy faces carrying around puppies after getting their weights for intake. We took three cats and a total of ten dogs to Altamont to be spayed/neutered. We have some Christmas kitten candidates, cute as bugs and friendly as can be, and one feral cat in a live trap that rumor has it has been adding to a local unwanted cat population problem. This cat is a very pretty cat, but not an adoptable cat. She was hissy and hostile in the live trap. We had to get her out of the trap wrapped in a towel. However, she has a role in the community and is a good mouser. We will get her spayed and ear-tipped, a universal sign that she has been spayed and release her to focus more on her mousing and less on making kittens. We think this is a win-win, and were all about controlling cat populations in this way. If you just catch and remove a pretty, but feral cat, like this one, other cats will quickly move in to their territory and reproduce. You will accomplish nothing. By trapping, spaying and releasing the cat, you hold the territory with a spayed cat and control the cat population while letting a good cat live out its life.
