Mondays Trivia question was : What was the federal yearly budget surplus for 1998 and 1999? ANSWER: Facts from the Congressional Buget Office shows the fiscal year of 1998 ended with a total surplus of 70 billion dollars . And the facts from the Congressional Budget Office shows the fiscal year of 1999 ended with a surplus of 123 billion dollars. The federal govt. uses cash basis accounting which they have always used. Republicans argue they need to use accural accounting, like most corporations use. According to the CBO even if you use accural accounting , 1998 still shows a surplus of 69.2 billion dollars and 1999 shows a 76.9 billion dollar surplus. This should clear it up for all the confused people out there.
