Money Ain’t Everything Put no confidence in extortion, - TopicsExpress

Money Ain’t Everything Put no confidence in extortion, and set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them. (Psalm 62:10) Depending on where you live – maybe affluence is a way of life. Or alternately, you might live in a country where poverty is the norm. I’m always blown away by the fact that someone in Rwanda, someone in the UK, someone in Brazil, someone in Papua New Guinea is reading this short reflection. So – given the different “audiences” and the wildly different soil-economic circumstances of all those reading this devotional – what exactly do I say about money? Material possessions? How can we reflect on God’s wisdom on wealth right across that spectrum? Well, thankfully, God’s wisdom transcends our situations. One of the things He says in Psalm 62 is that if your riches increase, don’t set your heart on them. Maybe we have plenty, maybe we don’t. But I’ve seen people who seem to have it all, people who should be happy, who should be secure, yet they’re miserable and lost and empty. That’s what happens when we set our heart on riches. The writer of that Psalm goes on to say this: … on God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him. That works wherever you are. It really works.
