Money Talk - Thursday, March 13th 2014 2 Chronicles 31:4 Moreover he commanded the people who dwelt in Jerusalem to contribute support for the priests and the Levites, that they might devote themselves to the Law of the LORD. NKJV Any pastor, missionary or ministry leader who is truly seeking the Lord is not in it for the money. Our desire is simply to be obedient to the calling God has placed on our lives, whether its pastoring a church or caring for orphans in Africa. The reality is that while a pastors goal is not wealth, there is a need for money in order for ministry to be accomplished. While we cannot all be full time pastors or missionaries, we all can support the full time work of building Gods Kingdom. 1 Corinthians 9:13-14 Dont you realize that those who work in the temple get their meals from the offerings brought to the temple? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings. 14 In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it. NLT Many people become uncomfortable when church leaders discuss giving because it has been abused by bad teachers. But that doesnt mean we can refuse to teach people the importance and joy of giving. You see... while there is a benefit for churches needing finances to function, there is also a great blessing for those who give. Every dollar given to the Lord is a way of denying ourselves. As we give up what we think is ours, we become less selfish and over time we begin to experience the freedom that comes with giving to God. God did not command us to give because He needs money, He commands us to give so that we can grow closer to Him and so that others may hear the good news of the Gospel. Life Lesson: Giving and tithing provides for the workers in the harvest and helps destroy selfishness in our lives. Dear God, Thank You for the money that You have provided for me. Lord, help me to be obedient with my finances both in how I spend it and how I give it. I desire to help support the work You are doing in my church and pray that as I do You would work in me.
