Mongkok, last night. What the video doesnt show though is that after the pepper spray, the beatings and arrests, protestors re-grouped and led the police on a shopping spree all over downtown Kowloon. They fanned out across Shantung, Sai Yeung Choi and other smaller streets, then re-gathered at the spot where theyd earlier faced off with police. We braced for another clash. But after letting the tension build for a good five minutes, the protestors turned and walked away, announcing that they would shop somewhere else. They marched towards TST, made sure police vans zoomed ahead of them, then abruptly turned back towards Mongkok. They turned around again when the vans caught up. Some protestors suggested heading for Tuen Mun and Tseun Wan. Others said they would swim across the harbour to Admiralty. Near TST, a man jumped out of his taxi to join the procession. Everyone cheered. Gotta admit it was pretty funny. And ingenius. March ended when the trains started running. Police followed protestors underground, but everyone left peacefully.
