Monica Gonsalves Borrageiro I WEEP FOR THE CHILDREN I weep for the newborn who has just taken a breath, and with a bleeding umbilicus, faces certain death by getting thrown in the trash and left to decay, just like a stray that the world threw away. The baby whose throat gets slit like a chicken, a rag doll who lies there bleeding and broken and in its own blood gets left to smother, death by the baby’s very own mother. I weep for the baby born on the hospital floor, dropped from his mother as down she bore To pick up the pillow that fell off the bed, when she looked down her baby was dead. The inhumane nurse stood at the door with no aid or compassion, and at the mother she swore today that mother’s heart is broken, mourning a child who had never spoken Another mother suffered a similar fate when her baby was left to asphyxiate those nurses too were inhumane, and her baby was born with a damaged brain I weep for the toddler who gets raped at four while her mother is at the convenience store by her very own uncle renegades hoping to cure their HIV and Aids I weep for the seven year old little girl who gets gang raped in her class at school the chance of her learning to read are less then the certainty of this cruel aggress. For out of three at least one child will sure be raped and be reviled before she learns to read and write. Is it out of mind because it’s out of sight? The brutal rape and murder of a 17 year old caused an outcry of anger and grief untold she was slaughtered, disembowelled and left to die. Did no one hear her feeble cry? These are just a few , there are thousands of others raped by savages or killed by their mothers or stolen as they didn’t know the danger of talking to and trusting a stranger tonight those children are lost and weeping while ours are warm and safely sleeping what if one of those was our very own wouldn’t we want them safely home? So many of our children are missing, is there anyone out there who’s listening? let’s be their ears, let’s be their eyes, let’s help them before another one dies Our children are the future of this land when are we going to take a stand? or have we accepted that this impropriety has become a normal part of our society?
