Monkey Player Profile #5 Name: Paul Dunn Paul broke through into The Monkey first team with fellow academy graduates Roy Pattison & David Scott. His commitment & physical dedication has prolonged his career beyond the aforementioned players; Paul has improved steadily with age & at this point is probably in the best shape he’s ever been. That’s not to say there haven’t been any bumps along the way as quite a few storied incidents have littered this man’s career. The only place to start would be the infamous “megaphone incident” After being sent off for clothes-lining a player Paul then proceeded to roundly abuse the official with a megaphone from the touchline. A record suspension followed for the MSL bad-boy & despite calls for the club to cut their losses he was brought back into the fold by defiant manager Chris Hay. A heartbroken Dunny was substituted ten minutes into the team’s Challenge Cup win over Red Row in the 12/13 season; early in the encounter Paul clashed heads with an opponent sustaining a heavy cut, he missed the rest of the contest & heard the news of the team’s victory later whilst being treated in hospital. A brief flirtation with Tyneside Irish Club at the start of the 13/14 season left a bitter taste amongst The Monkey’s hardcore but a triumphant return in the second half of the campaign soon made that a distant memory. Paul played every game upon his re-signing & capped a solid run by playing the full 90 minutes in the teams’ Lewin Cup win against Amble Tavern laying to rest his cup final demons from 2013.
