Monroe-Woodbruy CSD launched its first salvo last night to protect our schools and community from the village of Kiryas Joels proposed 500+ acre annexation of Monroe town property into the village of KJ Despite Monroe Town supervisor, Harley Doles and the leadership in Kiryas Joels best efforts, the Monroe-Woodbury CSD refused to be ignored and demanded a leadership role in the proposed KJ annexation. The MW Superintendent of schools, Ed Mehrhof, and the districts legal council stood before a packed meeting at the Monroe Senior Center and made its case for lead agency status in the proposed land annexation. Monroes town board, and the leadership in the village of Kiryas Joel, for the first time in a long time faced true legal and ethical oposition. It came in the form of the Monroe Woodbury school community, the Board of Education and the districts legal council. This is just the beginning, but it is a beginning, not the done deal the Monroe town board and KJ had hoped for.
