Monster Java Kona Blend is keeping me awake after the sleep deprivation of the John Wayne marathon on TCM. Too bad that Ron Howard couldnt have directed The Shootist rather than starred in it. I think Don Siegel dropped the ball directing this film. For the Dukes last film and for the enormity of the cast, the fact that it was shot using TV show style frames and camera angles is disappointing. For example, when John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart are on screen for the first time together in the film, they were dwarfed by the clutter in the room and shot as if for the small screen. An expansive shot with just enough decor to portray a doctors home office with Wayne and Stewart dwarfing all else with their legendary presences would have been the way to go. Too bad it wasnt shot like Lawrence of Arabia and made into an epic film to commemorate the legacy of one of the screens biggest actors.
