Montalegre Castle, Portugal. Built between 1273 and 1331, according to inscriptons in the base of the south tower, it was the defensive stronghold for all the region of Terras de Barroso, near the northern border of Portugal with Galiza. After the loss of its importance in the 16th century it served as a storage place for gunpowder, ammunitions, and some sort of community center. In one of the towers we can still find a big stone oven where people used to cook bread.
