Montana State Forester Bob Harrington said the Lolo Complex fires blew up in perfect conditions at around 2 p.m. on Monday. Driven by 40 mph gusts, the West Fork II fire ballooned to an estimated 3,500 acres and spotted more than two miles downwind, where it threatened to join the Schoolhouse fire to the north. Harrington, along with Lolo National Forest Supervisor Debbie Austin, said fire managers pulled crews off the front line for safety reasons. Aircraft were temporarily grounded due to high winds and limited visibility. “This is a troubling fire for a number of reasons,” Harrington said. “All along this canyon, along with the side canyons, we have hundreds of homes, as well as the commercial districts in the town of Lolo. This is very problematic
