Montegriffo With A Cosmin Moti Moment Gives Mons The Win A great Second Division Cup game between Mons Calpe and Gib Phoenix ended in a 4-2 penalty win for Mons after they drew 1-1. A game that had it all, including a defender playing the entire game as a keeper, saw two goals, two reds shown and some fantastic keeping by the Phoenix keeper to keep his side in the game. Mons Calpe had the lion share of possession with Israel Castillo and Poyo causing havoc in the Phoenix defence although Phoenix held gallantly, with their keeper having a blinder. Some top draw saves kept Phoenix in the game although it was not enough. The first half saw Phoenix reduced to 10 men after their striker reacted aggressively to what seemed like a perfectly normal tackle. Referee Gilbert had no option but to send him off and Phoenix played the majority of the game with 10 men. The second half once again saw some crunching tackles and some good football on show until Phoenix opened the scoring after a Goalkeeping howler by makeshift keeper Montegriffo who inexplicably palmed a harmless cross onto the roof of his net! This spurred Mons on and they equalised almost Instantly from the penalty spot after Gilbert signalled for a handball. Up stepped Poyo who cooly slotted it past the keeper... Then with just seconds left of the game, Isaac Cereto was sent off after a baffling decision by Gilbert. He didnt touch the player although the tackle was wreckless. Still, no contact was made but Gilbert saw it different and sent him off. The phoenix player remained on the ground like he had been shot, although the minute the red had been shown he got up and jogged along... Penalties next and it was the chance for the keepers to convert themselves into heroes. Both teams scored their first respective penalties although the second Phoenix pen was saved by Montegriffo, who decided to emulate Cosmin Moti and his Goalkeeping antics that got Ludgorets Razgarad to the Champions League. Phoenix missed one more penalty whilst Mons kept their heads level and managed to score them all. At the end, the just result prevailed especially after the Phoenix keeper had a blinder. He is given our MoTM award today for some spectacular saves... 5Point4 bringing sports to you...
