Montereys six-month program of regimented physical exercise, drug - TopicsExpress

Montereys six-month program of regimented physical exercise, drug treatment and education, and service to local communities, is one of the longest-running boot camps in the country. The program offers reduced sentences for those who agree to tough it out through the marching, drilling, and hard work the inmates do every day. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose father opened the facility 27 years ago, wants to close the facility this coming July. Closing Monterey Shock cuts an 8-million-dollar payroll from this small county, and cuts prisoner-supplied services to many local communities. Its been estimated that the community service, low repeat-offender rate, and the productivity of graduates have all saved New York State taxpayers nearly ONE AND A HALF BILLION DOLLARS since Monterey opened in 1987. Please watch this video and help pressure our politicians to keep this vital facility operating.
