Monte’s March: 26 Miles to Fight Hunger NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB)- The rain didn’t stop one local group from walking a marathon today for a good cause. Monte’s March was led by radio host, Monte Belmonte, and U.S. Representative Jim McGovern. The 26 miles route is from Northampton to Greenfield. They push shopping carts to raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank of Western Mass. Those participating say they are honored to go the distance. “I’m out here with Monte Belmote and the rest of the crew marching to raise money for the Food Bank of Western Mass,” says McGovern. “I always think about it as, if you ever missed a meal you get that sense of hunger and don’t feel like yourself. There are people who feel like that every single day, so the little stress I’m putting on my body right now is no comparison to the people who are going to wake up tomorrow morning and not know if they have a meal waiting for them,” says Monte Belmonte, 93.9 The River radio host. Last year they raised about 50-thousand dollars for the food bank of Western Mass.
