Montrose’s Mofest – Friday, May 23, 2014 The hotly anticipated Mofest gets underway in Montrose later today with headline act Status Quo rocking the East Links tonight, on a weekend where the Angus town will play host to around 200 gigs across 20 different venues. The event is expected to attract several thousand people to Montrose over the holiday weekend and Police Scotland hopes they enjoy what is sure to be an excellent occasion. Local Inspector Hamish Gray said his officers would be maintaining a highly visible profile throughout the town to ensure that everyone is allowed to enjoy the occasion, without the revelry being affected by crime or disorder. He said: ‘‘Mofest is a great event for the town and it has always been very well supported by large numbers of people focused on having a great time. Our officers will be engaging with people, so please take time to speak with them. They will be out and about on patrol, but also in and around the events where they will continue to work closely with event organisers, licensees and their staff ‘‘As with any large event, we might see a small minority of individuals become involved in drink-fuelled anti-social, or event criminal behaviour. I warn them in advance to behave, because their actions will not be tolerated and they will be robustly dealt with. ‘‘We are determined to keep revellers and others living, working and socialising in the area safe. Anyone whose actions are contrary to our aims and who is involved in disorder will find their weekend’s ‘fun’ is very quickly curtailed. ‘‘The communities of Angus are among safest communities in the UK and we fully intend to keep them that way.’’ Mofest runs from today (Friday, May 23) to Sunday (May 25). The Status Quo concert is a ticketed event with all 4800 tickets sold.
