Moral societies do not execute severely mentally ill people (as documented by multiple previous commitments and diagnoses) who did not receive a fair trial. Period. I observed a large portion of this farcical non-trial trial in person in Texas, and it offended the conscience. This trial essentially involved Scott Panetti rambling incoherently and terrifying the jury with his obvious insanity, including wearing dime store cowboy outfits in court. What was his defense? Who the hell knows. I certainly couldnt tell whether he had one because nothing in court that he said made any sense, nor did it follow rationality. Now this farce is in the hands of @GovernorPerry. If nothing else, @GovernorPerry should listen to the growing groundswell of conservative and Evangelical opposition to this execution and stay this death sentence.
