More Family history: my 13x Great Grandfather was Robert Coe. He was born in 1596 in Thorpe-Morieux, Suffolk, England and died in 1689 in Jamaica, Long island, New York. Robert Coe is the originator of most Coe family members in America. He was born in a small, rural town and was baptized in the ancient church there on Oct 26 1596. Robert Coe appeared in Boxford England in 1625 which was then a thriving manufacturing area. He had a very good education and likely attended the Boxford Hrammar School which was commissioned by Wueen Elizabeth in 1596. Religious conditions and environment pushed Robert Coe to a career different from his ancestors. Puritanism was prominent in the Suffolk area and persecution of its adherents led to large emigration to New England in 1630. Robert Coe joined the others who left behind their ancestral home and braved the hardship of pioneer life to found a new nation in the New World. In 1634, Robert Coe, his wife and three young children boarded the ship Francis in the port at Suffolk and headed for the New World. Robert Coe originally settled in Watertown, Mass but within a year moved to Connecticut which he owned 900 acres of what is now Glastonbury. After a church disagreement, Robert crossed Long Island sound and founded Hempstead, NY. He later founded Jamaica, NY with his son Benjamin. At 75 years, Robert Coe retired from public life
