More Hours For Less Pay: Im sitting here having a conversation with a man about the United States and the shrinking middle class, and the growing poor working class. I thought about the garbage man. I remember growing up and I thought the garbage man was a cool job. They rode on the back of the garbage truck, they hopped off, picked up garbage cans and dumped them into the truck, hopped back on the truck to the next house. Dirty job, but cool. I dont remember the last time I seen a garbage man, now its a dude in a truck, with an arm that grabs the garbage can and dumps all the garbage into it. I wonder, when the cities in America adopted these trucks to replace the workers, what happened to the garbage man? If there was a crew of 3, and now its a crew of 1, did we put 2 garbage men out of work? If so for how long? I miss the garbage man. Im sure his back was toast after 20 years of tossing garbage cans, but he had benefits, he had a pension/retirement cause he was a city worker. I wonder what he does now? Did he have to move? Did he have to find a new career cause he was labelled as not economically viable for the city? I miss the garbage man. ~ DB
