More Mango: Mango has announced several additions to its business model including increased flight frequencies on its major domestic routes Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, the establishment of a new domestic base and the introduction of new seats. The airline is to increase flight frequencies across its major domestic routes by over 30 weekly flights with the introduction of two new B737-800 aircraft, starting August. The airline’s new schedule was launched on July 9 with the first of the two new aircraft coming online on August 5. Mango will also launch a Durban base later this year with permanently stationed aircraft enabling the airline to provide an improved schedule to and from the city. Nico Bezuidenhout, Mango ceo, notes that the airline is investigating both new domestic routes as well as regional destinations. The airline would not elaborate on these plans with Nico adding that the airline has applied for scheduled operations to two East African destinations and is presently in the final planning stages for a seventh domestic port. Mango currently operates charter flights to Zanzibar on behalf of tour operator, AfricaStay. Also new to Mango is the introduction of the first set of ‘new-look’, environmentally friendly seats. Both new aircraft will have the new seats, which will then be installed in the existing fleet. “The new seats will save approximately 820kg in aircraft weight, resulting in overall emission reductions of up to 1,7 million tonnes of CO2 annually upon completion of the programme,” said Nico.
