More Pain For Perry ROSS PERRY is expected to miss the start of the new season after suffering ankle ligament damage yesterday. The defender was introduced as a substitute at half-time in the 2-0 friendly win over Brora at Dudgeon Park and had looked composed alongside Canadian Luca Gasparotto. But midway through the second period he came off worst in a collision with home winger Ryan Watson and had to leave the field on a stretcher. Perry received intensive treatment in the hours after the match but his ankle swelled up and he has been ruled out for the foreseeable future. The 23-year-old had a torrid time with injuries last season as a series of problems sidelined him for large chunks of the campaign. Among his ailments were two broken noses and a torn hamstring while he also required a hernia operation at one point. Former Scotland under-21 star Perry had returned to training four weeks early this summer in a bid to make up for his frustrations of a few months ago. But he now faces a spell on the sidelines once again and just how long that will be should be can’t be determined until his ankle settles and gets back to its normal size. At present, the Rangers management are resigned to being without him for weeks rather than days and that’s a huge setback for manager Ally McCoist. He is keen to recruit central defenders because he feels he is short in that area so losing Perry was the last thing he needed. The Falkirk-born stopper joins a list of absentees which currently includes Barrie McKay, Dean Shiels, Chris Hegarty and David Templeton. On a more positive note, Andy Mitchell returned to training this morning at Dornoch beach after he jarred his ankle in Saturday afternoon’s session. Sebastien Faure was also involved after missing out on the meeting with Brora because of illness. Manager McCoist is optimistic both men can play in Wednesday’s game at Elgin and each will train after lunch today.
