More Painful Prunings* Since I was a kid I believed that plants and animals have feelings too. I always felt sad upon seeing my grandfather approach his little garden with a giant scissor in his hands. Its pruning time and I wonder how painful it could be for the plants. Bakit kailangan nyo pong tanggalin yung mga dahon at putulin yung mga sanga?, I once asked my lolo (not because I wanted to know, but because I wanted the plants to hear his reasons.) My grandpa answered, Tuyo na kasi ang mga sanga at dahon na tinatanggal ko. Kailangan silang alisin para hindi mamatay yung halaman at para magkaroon ng space sa pagtubo ng mas mataas. Sometimes God also seem to prune us. Our sad and painful experiences are like giant scissors that takes away a lot from us. We lose company, friends, jobs, properties, dreams, and a lot of things we cling to. But its just Gods way of pruning our dryness. Maybe we dont look good in a bad company or not so good friends. Maybe our jobs are suffocating us, our properties are possessing us and some dreams are not just meant for us especially when our way of reaching them is killing our souls. Some might ask, What about losing those we consider important? Say, death of a loved one, losing a favorite person, separation from the family and others we consider special? Sometimes it really looks unreasonable. Well, when I was a kid, I watch my grandfather cut even his most beautiful flowers to give his plants a room for growth. And it hurts him too because he admired and loved them so much. So maybe, thats also the way with God. He takes from us even those we consider most important to establish an opening in our souls where bountiful and more beautiful flowers can grow. And when your soul is already flowering, you will bear much fruit. Whatever flower you lose, just offer it at the altar of God. Thats what my grandfather does and I see it lights his face... *from Anaknimaria
