More St. Catherine confessions! In 8th grade (maybe 7th) I was chosen to be captain of the patrol boys. I ran a tight military operation. Except one snowy winter day when most of the patrol boys abandon their morning post (due to the snow) and we all met at the corner across from the Rectory. As cars were stopping to drop their kids off at school they would get stuck in the snow and the patrol boys were pushing them free. Consequently, some of the boys were hanging onto the cars and skitching a ride down the street. Undoubtedly we were having major fun. Even to the point Father Mertaugh passed our corner and let us skitch on his car all the way to the garage. Once in class, Sister Maris pulled all the patrol boys out of class, and had us lined up in the hall. Yelling at us, talking about parent conferences and suspensions. WE WERE ALL TOAST. Until, good old Father Mertaugh came walking by and asked Sister Maris what was going on. She took him aside, filled him in on our actions. He responded back to her and walked away. Whereupon, Sister Maris walks back to us boys and said Get back to class and dont ever let this happen again. WHEW, Thanks Father Mertaugh! By the way, later that day, all the patrol boys were terminated from duty and the rest of the year we had patrol girls!!!
