More about yesterdays post..... Last year MSEA covered up the embezzlement scandal in Worcester County. This year they are supporting tactics out of Putin’s playbook. By contrast ,MSTA,( State “Teachers Association”) back in the day, prided itself on being an up-front professional association It even changed its constitution to provide for an every member secret ballot vote on such important issues as statewide officers. When it had to replace the leadership of PSTA (its Baltimore City affiliate) it did so only after lengthy, deliberate, due process hearings, in which the incumbent officers were given a full, fair and open opportunity to be heard. There were no midnight raids of the PSTA office and even the officer who was replaced saw the effort as completely above board. After 28 years of service as an MSTA UniServ Director, including 12 years in Wicomico and Worcester, it is disgusting to see the teachers’ image so tarnished by the Jimmy Hoffa Teamster like tactics of the newly named MSEA. It is for this reason that I authored the Liability Insurance article posted today. I believe it is time for MSEA leaders to channel their predecessors from the decades past. They can start by telling all members the truth about the Million Dollar Liability Policy, and stop using this scare tactic to enroll members. NEA leaders have been saying this for years. As a former MSTA Attorney told the professional staff, when the state law passed to mandate that school boards carry a $! Million Liability Policy on every teacher, “If the members ever find out that ours is a mere add on, we will lose half of our members.” Sadly, CHET H.
