Apparently, saturated fatty acids reduce the efficiency and mobility of red blood cells, and thus their oxygen-delivery function. In contrast, unsaturated fatty acids, like premium fish oils, tend to support circulation and actually attract oxygen. A high-grade fish oil supplement (or flax for vegans and vegetarians) should be a staple for athletes and health enthusiasts.
