More clean-up news from Vietnam football. 9 players have received life-time bans for fixing an AFC Cup match last season. The Vissai Ninh Binh players rigged their match with Kelantan and the ringleader received a 30-month jail-term, the others got suspended sentences. The Vietnam Federation have now handed down life bans - which is exactly the hard-line message we have to send to football players involved in match-fixing throughout Asia. Theres got to be zero tolerance for this behaviour, though every effort must also be made to bring to justice the people pulling the strings in these cases too. The players are the ones doing the dirty work, and getting rewarded, but others are making the big money from betting and persuading/pressurizing the players to fix matches.
