More disturbing news out of Columbus County (Whiteville), NC !! (Some of you might recall - this is the shelter whose director killed between 13 and 15 adoptable dogs a few weeks ago for no legitimate reason). A newly renovated house for a fabulous rescue - the house included a newly built cat house - was reportedly deliberately burned to the ground. We are trying to help this group raise $2,500 to offer as a reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible. In the meantime, however, one of our best rescues has just experienced a deliberate act of unbelievable cruelty. Julie Wheeler of Cat Adoption Team and her husband had a home in Whiteville, outfitted for them and rescued cats to live in, which was was Julies dream being realized. That home, which was ready to move into, was burned to the ground early this morning. Julie has been TREMENDOUSLY active in saving both dogs and cats from this shelter for a long time. And she has been advocating on behalf of the animals in this county since she was born here. This must be posted and shared WIDELY to assist law enforcement. One of our own has been put at risk, and I know we will all stand with her against this disgusting kind of person. This fight for the animals in Columbus County has taken a very ugly turn, and we must do all we can to see that these people are punished.
