More gratitude … think I’ll try to keep going until my anniversary (Oct 4) … to keep the positivity flowing … 1. Grateful for a sign I noticed outside a church today while driving to get my new kitten. “A sense of humor is life’s shock absorber.” I’m discovering that I DO have a sense of humor, which I somehow didn’t notice as much, being married to a guy with a knack for lightening any situation with a good wisecrack. 2. Grateful for my new kitten. That was just too easy, so I’ll dig a little deeper for the next one. 3. Grateful to witness the beautiful heartfelt vows Sam and Katie made to each other yesterday. Being a woman on the verge of divorce at a wedding was kind of like being the one who’s had a few miscarriages when someone announces a pregnancy. I almost want to wear a sign saying “This will not happen to you.” Or “I really am happy for you. In fact I think I’m even happier for you, having traveled the road I have.” I paid close attention to the vows. I know there was something in there about sharing feelings and needs with each other. Amen to that. That’s one piece of the puzzle of what went awry in my marriage, so I’ll pass along my hard-earned wisdom for anyone who might benefit. Always looking for ways to turn the negative into positives, I am. Most of us get plenty of conditioning in NOT sharing feelings or needs, for all kinds of reasons. So when those messages creep in telling you it’s wrong to feel or need such-and-such … view them with suspicion, challenge them, stretch yourself to be more open. If you can’t have all your feelings, or be needy or vulnerable at home with your spouse, where can you? To lighten this a little, I have to share my favorite vow Katie made: to never have more than 3 cats at one time. I take that to mean their home will always have 3 cats … and basically the sky’s the limit on other animals. :)
