More incompetence from a government agency!! SHAMEFUL. Send this to all the Vets you know: From Bill Marshall Dave, I am sending you a synopsis of what happened with Jeremy Sears. Last Monday, October 6th, 2014, Jeremy was at the Iron Sights indoor shooting range in Oceanside, California. He turned his weapon on himself and shot himself in the forehead committing suicide at approximately 14:30. Tuesday morning I received a call from a Marine friend of mine stating that he had committed suicide and his wife Tammy was devastated and hysterical. We learned later that Jeremy had just received a response to his claim stating he was 0% service connected for his disabilities. I had one of our volunteers contact the Oceanside VA clinic seeking some psychological support for Tammy, which we understood they followed up on. Jeremy was a 2/5 Bn. four deployment Marine; twice each in Afghanistan and Iraq. He had filed for TBI and PTS along with shrapnel in his eye and other physical wounds received from participation in combat. He had long awaited this decision and when it was completely negative he took it very badly, which led directly to his suicide. After he received the results of his claim he had contacted the Semper Fi fund for assistance with his rental and living expenses. He received no answer to his phone calls or e-mails from the Semper Fi fund. The VA now admits to his wife that a mistake was made and he was indeed entitled to 80% service connection. Unfortunately, the VA admission of mistake has come too late for Jeremy. Yesterday morning Jeremy’s body was cremated and later that day I attended his wake. There were many Marines there along with his immediate family and still there is no local coverage about this event. Does anyone care? This is why ACVOW’s mission is so important. I have contacted the UTs Jen Steele about this tragedy. Please feel free to distribute this e-mail to other Marines you know, including Col.
