Here’s how to get some! • Search for scholarships – Log into Naviance and try these out: On the Naviance home screen, look at the links down the left column and find the ones called “fastweb” and “scholarship search” – click on these to go to scholarships search sites. Go to the Colleges tab and click on the “scholarship list” link; there you will find scholarships for which I have received info so far (this will be updated regularly). Also in the Colleges tab, click “national scholarship search” • Get ready to file the FAFSA FAFSA is the major form you must file to apply for need-based financial aid (grants, loans, some scholarships). It CAN’T be done until after January 1st, but start keeping your 2013 financial and income info someplace handy; you’ll need it soon! Must be filed by March 10th (some colleges have earlier deadlines). I will give Seniors more info and a FAFSA worksheet in January. File the FAFSA even if you don’t think your family will qualify for financial aid – some scholarships require the student to file the FAFSA and the best kinds of loans are offered to those who have filed FAFSA. Help will be available! Put College Goal Sunday (2/23/14) on your calendar. It’s a FAFSA workshop held at BGHS with financial aid experts here to help you submit your FAFSA online. • Want to know now how much you might pay to attend college? On the Naviance home screen, look at the links down the left side and find the one called “college cost estimate” – use the Indiana College Costs Estimator to find out how much financial aid you might qualify for and what your real cost of attendance might be at various Indiana colleges (indianacollegecosts.org). • Scam Alert! You should never pay money to get money. Don’t let any organization or group convince you to pay them money to find you grants or scholarships. They would just do the same research you can do yourself!
